granny13 opens with nicola ratti’s “odd doubt”. with the use of a modular system and tape loops, a broken rhythm is obtained by parallelism between single sound signals as lfo one or processed tapes.
on the second side, giovanni lami’s “johnny leech” is made with a small bunch of equipment, just a chaotic hand-made synth (cacophonator) and a memoryman, working mainly on static electricity and leakage current in the synth used without any kind of power supply.

2018 repress ,how much do you really know about nina kraviz? shes a russian techno dj, an accomplished producer, one of dance musics breakthrough names of the last five years. true enough, but theres so much more to her story than that. shes one of electronic musics most interesting characters, someone who has stuck to her musical guns since day one, someone who has wide-ranging roots that run deep in the past, yet shes also the embodiment of the future. her signature sound is a raw blend of house and techno with a very acidic feel. if that feels very now, kraviz has a lot to do with it, which is why she was asked to mix the latest instalment of !k7s landmark dj kicks series.

after exploring georgian soundscapes, the intergalactic research institute for sound is honored to reissue stanislav tolkachevs blue mood. first released on aftertaste recordings in 2008, this masterpiece is in the institutes opinion one of the most impressive work of the ukrainian artist. for the occasion, stanislav created the artwork for the record in order to complement or maybe represent an idea behind the release. the institute plans to ask artists to deliver also a visual on top of their sound communication on the label. limited copies of blue mood will include a photography of tolkachev’s artwork. absolute limit, which finds itself on the b side, is a brand new track by tolkachev. as usual he delves deeper into abstract and distorted techno, delivering a truly mental cut.

réminiscences is a selection of 8 standards of the band revisited in a more punchy and electro style compared to the original versions but preserving what made the specificity of the opera multi steel sound. indeed, on boosted rhythms and fully re-recorded vocals, those new versions use sounds and “historical” instruments cherished by the band since its beginnings: tr 808, tr 606, tb 303, elex, casio vl-1, recorders, medieval choirs and various samples. the texts have been preserved in their entirety. the tracks are taken from albums such as cathedral (un froid seul, du son des cloches...) a contresens (les sens, las), les douleurs de l’ennui, la légende dorée (fureur en asie) and even from the very first vinyl ep of the band (massabielle). the artworks of the disc and sleeve, as well as the video clip coming together, have been realized by alan cassiano, who based his graphic work on visual atmospheres inherited from the very first vinyl ep of the band, using images taken from the encyclopedia (xviiith century) and perspectives by jan vredeman de vries (xvith century). finally, reminiscences is not a simple compilation of tracks, but rather a kind of travel through the different ages of opéra multi steel’s music rearranging/revisiting classic songs and images through nowadays eyes and ears.

hugh ‘redman’ james is one of the greatest jamaican music producers of the late 1980s. raised in a musical household in the west kingston slum of hannah town, with his mother a sound system selector, redman gained his initial schooling in the music business from none other than king tubby, the legendary sound system owner and dub mixer that was responsible for voicing and mixing some of the greatest reggae of all time. after being immersed in sound system culture during his youth in the 1960s and 70s, redman began sitting in on sessions at king tubby’s studio, but migrated to hartford, connecticut in 1978 in search of steady employment. returning to jamaica a few years later, he established a popular sound system in kingston and began producing music with king tubby’s assistance in 1985, working with the roots radics during a time of great uncertainty in jamaican music, as the new dancehall style came to prominence, early work featured gregory isaacs, sugar minott and frankie paul, as well as rising stars such as little john and horace martin. then, following the computerisation of dancehall, redman began producing some of the most popular music of the day, crafting durable and complex rhythms with a broad team of players that included steely and clevie, augmented by members of the browne bunch and other players. redman helped establish a number of total unknowns in this era, including carl meeks, dave bailey and wayne palmer, and became a serious contender for king jammy’s crown. but the producer was ultimately frustrated by the dramatic changes to sweep jamaican music in the early 1990s, and subsequently retreated from the music industry redman international dancehall 1985-1989 compiles the best work from his glory days, with half of the twelve vocal tracks coming complete with corresponding dub versions.

frío y vacío is a band based in méxico city, formed in 2015 by the prolific angel kauff (vocals, guitar, synths, drum machine) and jon gil (bass, drum machine). angel also created his more synth orientated stockhaussen and isotropía projects, jon is also half of the identik fact project, the other half being his twin brother jeremy key who in turn is the guest vocalist in frío y vacío s song autodestrucción . what frío y vacío do is a reflection of their name, meaning cold and void . they have been influenced by different music genres, from post-punk and goth rock to cold wave and synth punk, all with a classic 80s sound. the lyrics are a consequence of kauff s personal experiences and feelings. the music, a maelstrom of fast rhythms, sharp guitars, thumping baselines, everything to create an oppressive atmosphere, charged with a high load of electrostatic power that is released in almost every song. pure, dark energy. note: limited to 265 hand numbered copies - comes with download code and lyrics insert

native new yorker son of sound aka henry maldonado returns to delusions of grandeur with another fine ep including two floor-friendly originals plus a stripped back remix from aroop roy. for those too young to have been buying records in the early 90’s henry was a key figure, involved in seminal releases on strictly rhythm as house 2 house, maxi records as deja vu and maw records as rhythm section. to say this guy has history is something of an understatement having made an important contribution to the first wave of deep house with productions dating right back to ’91. more recently he has created magic for jus ed’s underground quality, classic, razor n tape and local talk as well as establishing his own district30 imprint.

arkansas native, lee moore moved to memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in new york, l.a and everywhere in between. as a singer and songwriter lee moore spent the 1980s collaborating in memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like volt and stax records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. in his quest for a unique sound, he constantly reinvented himself, creating projects with new aliases and concepts, scraping together studio time, and hustling. even today, moores music sounds ahead of its time.

for this spectacular release, we have the pleasure to bring you an amazing four track selection called eden ep by giuseppe cennamo, which also includes a fantastic remix by the romanian artist dubphone. for the a side, we have eden first, a beautiful minimal house blend with a strong hypnotic base that makes the listener float with its soft female vocals and texture pads in the backend. the second track is strong bodies and in it we can fully appreciate a techier approach with a groovy low-end construction, which gets perfectly complemented with several percussive articulations and of course, some delicate synth sounds in the background too. as first track of the b side, we have dubphone s remix of strong bodies that relies on a magnificent low-end with a truly peculiar night club sound that can easily get you into a fantastic trippy vibe alongside the several and complex fx elements that distracts you constantly from the base elements. the second track from this side is visionary, and it presents a more joyful base vibe than the previous tracks with some delicate deep elements that creates a subtle and refined sound that reflects the top-notch quality of the whole release.

marco resmann returns to watergate after a productive stint at the red bull music studios in cape town with two stellar cuts featuring local heroes deep aztec and black soda. tack on a remix from the one and only oliver huntemann and another revision from resmann himself and you have the ‘babylon side ep. teaming up to kick things off, resmann, black soda and deep aztec embrace the cultural sounds of africas organic percussion and vocal prowess to create a tour de force tune perfectly balance between flashing club lights and vast open skies. following suit, ‘abadala sees marco again with deep aztec for a lush ride into deep emotional spaces by applying mesmerizing syncopated rhythms and spellbinding vocals ideal for deeper or more sentimental dance floor moments. up next is techno legend oliver huntemann who, playing after resmann earlier this year at the 15 years of watergate event at warung beach club in brazil enjoyed his set and the two hit it off, so logically he was asked to lend his trademark sound for a revision of ‘babylon side and he twists the original into a heavy techno belter complete with sinister sonics and fever inducing sirens. wrapping things up is marco resmann himself with his own take on ‘babylon sides and delivers a wild and twisted version of gargantuan low end and psychedelic shimmers of the original vocal resulting in a killer tune with a ton of attitude.
